6) Bundala National Park
Bundala National Park is situated about 240 km from Colombo, near Hambantota. The park area consists lagoons, streams, seasonal water holes, tanks, salt marshes, mangroves, seashores and salterns. There are 197 species of birds and other animals, especially you can sea turtles that come ashore to lay her eggs during the night.
7) Udawalawe National Park
Udawalawe National Park is situated 180 km from Colombo in the south central sector of the island. This park is most popular for the many whole herds of adults and young elephants feeding or bathing and playing in the water. This park also home to many birds, mammals,..etc.
8) Wasgamuwa National Park
Wasgamuwa national Park is situated in Matale and Polonnaruwa districts, and bordered by the ‘Mahaweli’ and ‘Amban’ rivers. There are a huge variety of animals such as 23 species of mammals, 143 birds, 17 freshwater fishes, 8 amphibians, 50 butterflies, 17 reptiles and 150 plants available in this park. A must visit place in Sri Lanka especially by animal lovers.
9) Gal Oya National Park
Gal Oya National Park was established in 1954 in west of Ampara, mainly to serve the catchment area of the ‘Senanayake Samudra’ reservoir. This is considered as a major eco-tourism venue. Home to a huge variety of flora and fauna such as about 32 species of mammals 430 birds..etc.
10) Minneriya & Kaudulla National Parks
Mostly if you want to see Elephants only, then this is the ideal place to see in a wild without any restriction. Around 5 and 1/2 hour journey from Colombo to reach this place. Several local safari services available. You will get the chance to see elephants gathering and birds in this area. It is surrounded by lakes which contains many mammals too. It is a worth place to visit if you have time to travel 6 hours from Colombo.
